A Shut-Ins story

Do you like short stories, music fests, crip pics, and the Shut-Ins?

The Shut-Ins played the Fairport Music Fest 23' and like usual they were amazing. The set was punctuated by a bunch of original music. I love that they are writing their music and hope they continue. The first show I saw of the Shut-Ins was a year ago at the same festival with Megan. This year I got to see the band with my mom, Mary, and my best friend Jacob. It was great we had some kombucha and Italian pretzels. If you go to FBC (Fairport) trust me and get those pretzels, I could eat a whole bag by myself.

It was outside and packed. The scent of the grill could be smelled wafting through the air (wafting...wow good word). This might be my last outside concert this year and I was glad I was able to spend it with the Shut-Ins.

Now this wouldn't be a crip guy story without some "interesting" interactions with people. The first part of this story was uplifting to the human spirit and the second made me laugh.

About half way through the band's performance a man came up set his phone down and started dancing. Then he started to get other people to dance. I joked with Jacob it would take me 8 more drinks to go out there. Later I learned that he is relatively well known and goes around and just gets people dancing. People are cool sometimes. I don't remember what his name was (that's the professional reporting we have come to rely on).

After a few people started dancing a man came up to me and tried to fist bump me. He then proceeded to say I was handsome and went back to dancing. He almost got taken out by a low bench to the shins so I think alcohol was involved. What made me laugh was situations like this keep happening to me. Being a cripple is kind of like being a cute girl. People will try to talk to you whenever you leave the house and sometimes call you good looking. I know it was because I was in a wheelchair still occasionally I like to be treated different. It gives me great stories.

I don't have great advice or a major lesson learned this week. The only thing I can say is get out there and enjoy life. It's too short to not have adventures whenever you can. Also, thanks Shut-Ins for putting on a great show! Until next time crips and non-crips, I believe in you.
